Reiki for People

“The fact that I can plant a seed and it becomes a flower, share a bit of knowledge and it becomes another’s, smile at someone and receive a smile in return, are to me continual spiritual exercises.”
~ Leo Buscaglia ~

What to expect from your studio Reiki healing session

It is important that you be well hydrated for your appointment (you should be drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water daily anyway!). Please drink a glass or two of water at least an hour before your scheduled appointment. Water acts as a conductor and will enhance the flow of energy. Please do not wear perfume, aftershave or cologne to your Reiki session as Teresa is highly sensitive of these aromas.

You will be asked to lie down, face up, on a massage table (if you are scheduled for a chair session, you will be asked to sit in a comfortable chair). You will remain fully clothed except for your shoes so it is best to wear loose-fitting clothing to your appointment (you are welcome to change if necessary). Wearing natural fabrics is best (cotton, wool, or linen). You will be asked to remove any jewelry (watches, rings, bracelets, pendants, earrings) prior to the session, so consider leaving these items at home. If you are wearing a belt you will be asked to remove it so that your breathing is not restricted in any way.

I will create a relaxing atmosphere for you by dimming the lights and using meditative music. During the Reiki healing session I will be placing my hands lightly on different parts of your body. I may also place my hands in your energy field rather than on your body. Either way, the Reiki energy will flow to where it’s supposed to go. Reiki is a smart energy that automatically flows where the imbalances are in your body regardless of where my hands are placed. I will follow a predetermined sequence of hand placements, allowing my hands to rest on each body placement for 2 to 5 minutes before moving on to the next. Because I am empathic, I may also move my hands freely to areas where I “feel” Reiki is most needed.

You may experience increased swallowing, your stomach may growl (mine may too for that matter), you may experience colors or swirls of light, or you may feel ‘odd’ sensations in your body. All of these are normal and are a sign of the energy moving through your body. Please do not be alarmed or embarrassed – these are normal processes and are a part of the Reiki experience. If you feel nothing or you fall asleep it does not mean the treatment was unsuccessful. It may mean that the healing energy was working on an issue other than physical namely the emotional, mental or spiritual bodies as directed by your Higher Self. If at any time you feel uncomfortable or just need to take a break, please do not hesitate to let me know. I want your experience to be a joyful one.

At the end of your session I will provide you with a glass of water and chocolate. It is the best way I know to ground all that energy!

What to expect from your distance Reiki healing session

A distance healing session is much the same as an in-studio session except of course, that you are in your own safe, comfortable space. Once your session has been scheduled and confirmed, I will call you, or if you prefer email you, with a short questionnaire. We will also set an intention/affirmation for your session at that time.

At the time of your appointment you will be in your safe, comfortable space. You might like to have some soft music playing. On my end, I’ll be connecting to you through the universal lattice and I’ll ask you to allow the Reiki energy to heal and address all your levels of being and also ask you to allow yourself to receive this healing energy. I will be channeling energy to you using the universal lattice and I’ll be doing it in two ways. First I’ll address your aura (or energy fields) which are made up of your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies (or you can visualize them as halos around your body). Secondly, I’ll address your Chakras (or energy centers), and then any other areas where I feel guided. The session will last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. At the end of the session, depending on your preference, I will contact you to discuss what you experienced and share what I sensed.

How does healing occur?

The theory behind healing with Reiki is that negative or blocked energy can cause physical, emotional or mental distress in the body and that clearing that energy will promote natural healing. The process of healing may occur in a number of different ways. According to the ‘Law of Cure’ (Hering’s Law) healing takes place;

  • In reverse chronological order to how the symptoms originally appeared.
  • From above to below.
  • From the inside to the outside (physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual).
  • From the most important to the least important organ.

Healing may also be experienced through dreams or flashbacks of symptoms experienced in childhood or early adolescence. These symptoms, which may be physical or emotional, resurface as a natural part of the clearing and healing process. They should be observed, acknowledged, and allowed to pass. This part of the healing process can sometimes be uncomfortable, but remember that all those negative symptoms are being released. Healing may also occur while the body is in a very relaxed state. Sometimes all the body needs is the opportunity to rest and rejuvenate.

It is usually recommended that three or four Reiki sessions be given initially. By then, the treatment will have had a chance to work and you should be feeling the benefits. Some clients then go on to schedule sessions on a regular basis every four to six weeks in order to maintain the improvement. I encourage my clients to listen to their bodies as to the right course for them.
